How I Honor God While I Train and Ride Horses...

Bowing my head before I swing a leg…

The most common way I honor God is though prayer.

When I’m having a hard time with a stubborn colt, and nothing else works I stop and I give a simple prayer. The prayer depends on different situations, but for the most part they sound similar to this “Lord, take my frustration and anger, because it only comes from misunderstanding and lack of knowledge on the horse or my part. Give me insight on what this colt needs. Amen.” I have found that prayer gives me the peace I need to find the answer to my issues, even if it isn’t that ride or even that day.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12

Look up, and admire what he created…

“Ain’t nothing better than riding a fine horse in new territory.” Augustus McCrae ‘Lonesome Dove'

Riding horses outside the arena, across lots of different terrain is a big part of my program. It comes from my early years of riding our rodeo horses in the Piñon canyons of southeastern Colorado.

Nowadays, when I ride a colt across new and amazing country, I always find time to stop and acknowledge the views, the animals, and the beautiful weather. God created all of these wonderful things for us to enjoy and remind us of His everlasting love for us. In my opinion, the Lord is the greatest artist to ever exist.

Give thanks when thanks is due…

I thank God in the good and the bad. When a horse finally gets that stop, when I finally figure out what my mentors have been trying to tell me for years, or even after I get bucked off and don’t get hurt. He deserves the thanks!

Training horses is hard, it takes a lot of time, but I love what I do and I thank God that He allows me to follow my passion as a career. No matter how tough it gets I give thanks every day that God allows me to do what I love.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Just some thoughts as we start another glorious week!
